Set out from Johannesburg for safari in Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s leading game sanctuary that covers more than 7,700 square miles of land between the Crocodile River in the south and the Limpopo in the north. It also boasts the greatest species diversity in Africa–more than 140 resident mammal species, including the iconic Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino). Itinerary
Day 1 – Depart USA
Depart Los Angeles on a flight bound for South Africa. (air can be quoted from your departure city through LAX)
Day 2 – Full Day Flight
Day 3 – Johannesburg, South Africa
Welcome to Johannesburg, the biggest city in South Africa and also the financial hub of the country. Upon your arrival, transfer from the Johannesburg Airport to your hotel. After check in, spend the balance of the day at leisure.
Day 4 – Johannesburg – Kruger National Park
Transfer from your hotel to the Johannesburg Airport for your flight to Hoedspruit Airport. Upon arrival, transfer to your lodge in Kruger National Park. In the afternoon, set out for your first game drive in an open 4×4 safari vehicle. This premier game sanctuary covers more than 7,700 square miles of land between the Crocodile River and the Limpopo and boasts the greatest species diversity in Africa. Send your camera into overdrive photographing more than 140 resident mammal species, including the big five “lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos”. Return to the lodge for dinner in the evening. (B,L,D)
Days 5 & 6 Kruger National Park – Safari Game Drives
Enjoy one of Africa’s leading attractions, the Kruger National Park. In addition to the “big five” you’re likely to see zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, wild dog and vast antelope herds. The varied terrain is also home to more than 300 species of trees, including baobabs, marulas and mopanes, countless insects and fascinating plants and grasses. Begin these two days with early morning game drives into the wild, followed by breakfast at the lodge. Spend the balance of the mornings to mid-afternoons at leisure. In the late afternoon, hop on board your dedicated 4×4 safari vehicle again for another drive to see magnificent wild animals in their natural habitats before returning to the lodge for dinner. Day 7 – Kruger National Park – Cape Town
Enjoy your final, exciting early morning game drive through Kruger National Park. After breakfast, transfer to Hoedspruit Airport for your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend the balance of the evening at leisure to relax and explore this cosmopolitan city on your own. Welcome to one of the world’s most picturesque destinations and most beautiful cities in the world. Cape Town is situated amidst majestic mountains and is surrounded by pristine white beaches. Often called the ‘cosmopolitan hub of Africa’, it is home to a rich cultural and historical heritage, vibrant restaurants and nightlife and a multitude of activities (B)
Day 8 – Cape Town
Begin an informative tour of Cape Town. Weather permitting, take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, a soaring flat topped mountain, to observe and learn about exotic flora and fauna and take in one of the best views in all of Africa. Tour the Malay Quarter, Company Gardens, the Edwardian-styled Town Hall, Castle of Good Hope, Table Bay at the base of Table Mountain, and Cape Town’s Diamond Works, a fine jewelry manufacturer. Spend the balance of the day at leisure to rest or explore Cape Town on your own. (B)
Day 9 – Cape Town – Cape Peninsula
During your second day in Cape Town, travel via the 12 Apostles and Hout Bay to Chapman’s Peak for one of the region’s most dramatic panoramic views over the city. This full day Cape Peninsula tour will visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, and the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach. (B)
Day 10 – Cape Town
Spend this full day at leisure to relax, explore Cape Town on your own, or participate in an optional tour to Robben Island. Take a ferry to ride across Table Bay to Robben Island. The island was once a prison, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site where former political prisoners give tours. See Mandela’s cell in the prison — it’s roughly seven square feet and hear what life was like for him and the other prisoners there, including how he was made to dig in a quarry when officials found out he was acting as a leader during a prisoner rebellion. Day 11 – Cape Town – Flight Back to US
Depending on flight times there will be some leisure time to relax or explore Cape Town on your own. Transfer from your hotel to the Cape Town International Airport for your departure flight. (B)
Day 12 – Arrive Home
Arrive back to Los Angeles International airport and the USA.
